UNIT HISTORY

On this page, we present a wealth of materials provided by CW5 Carnell, who was there at the deactivation of the unit and was the unit historian.

Here is the text of an e-mail from CW5 Carnell from January, 2007; click on the underlined documents to see them.

I hope the New Year finds you and yours well. I think that I will FINALLY provide you with a series of documents that you and I have spoken of several times.

I found my file of the Historical data from the 69th Ordnance Company. Although it is a relatively thick file, it is not as complete as we all would desire.

There are four annual reports 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, and the final close out report.

There is most importantly, the Unit Records Brief (similar to an Officer's Record Brief) that talks about the unit from its birth. 69th Ord Co stood up at Savanna Ord Depot, Ill on 20 Jun 1941, it lists the combat campaigns of the unit, awards etc. (by dates).

A wonderful article in the Nouva Vicenza, concerning the "secret closing of Site Pluto" and the questionable future of the Italian employees, WITH the official SETAF Command translation of the article.

I have transferred about 1/3 of the documents into pdf files and will commence forwarding.

So this is a heads up of the emails, with attachments, to let you know that they are coming.

Although there are a lot of Xeroxed photographs, most have not come out very well. (I have several pages of the ID badge pictures of the last, with witty remarks; thirty or so soldiers assigned). I will attempted to get them to look better.

Happy New Year!

v/r, Chief Carnell
