| Comments: | Love the site.
It brings back a lots of good memories of my youth. I worked in Commo
under SSG Graves and Sgt. Martinez from Dec.24,1974 until Aug 11,1976.
I hope to find some pictures, that I took during my stay at Pluto, to
add to the ones already here. As far as BESS MESS, I'll have to agree
with that 100%. I remember coming off my night shifts in the Commo room
and going into the Mess Hall for the best breakfast in the world. It makes
my mouth water even now. Great site. I hope to see more of the mid 70's
Commo group sign in. |

was by far the best memories in the Army, the experiences that help mold my career for the next 20 years. Have ran into VanGils, Decceco, Givens, Mercado...You won't find the comrade we had there. Did my 20, retired as an E-8, working as a civilian in the Pentagon... |

| Comments: | What
a blast!! Hadn't seen some of these names in 20 years! When did Angelo
& Cindy make Cdr's!!?? Last time I saw them they were still Lt.'s
pulling "duty" with the rest of us. I still hate sleeping in
a closet!! Don't forget the award winning mess we had then either, great
chefs they were indeed, kept me in the "fat-boy" program!! Was
just telling guys here yesterday about the 10 mil lunch -Dejavu. You folks
have an indelible impression in my memory for life!! |

couple of familiar names from the '66 to '68 era, but not enough. Where
are these guys? It would be great to reflect back on the old days at Pluto.
Franka and Anna's Bar. Big Rosa and many other memories. This is absolutely
one of the best websites I have seen. Keep of the good work. Nice to see
all of the spam gone. |

| Comments: | I have really enjoyed
the website. Many of the pictures brought back many memories. Many of
the individuals I knew very well during my stay. I was in Italy from November
of 1977 until July of 1981. I ITT from the 619th Ord Co in Germany to
the 69th. I was assigned to the 69th until shortly after I was promoted
to SFC when I was reasigned to the Group HQ S-3 and that is where I finished
my time in Italy. I was NCOIC of the Lance crew and platoon Sgt. Ask Bill
Green about the time he got yellow overspray all over my Lance containers.
My wife Frieda and our 5 children enjoyed our time in Italy. If you asked
them to this day it would be their favorite place. Thank you for the site
it was fun to surf. |

| Comments: | Served as an LT in the 69th from 85-88 and commanded the mighty 69th from 1990-1991. Just retired from the Army after 21 years. My last job in the Army was too help the countries for the former Soviet Union get rid of their nukes. How the world changed from my first assignment in the mid-80s with the 69th. Have the fondest memories of working at Site Pluto and with all the fantastic officers and soldiers: Night site checks, NAIRA, FTXs on the Talgiamento and Piave rivers etc etc etc. Met my wife while assigned there and had one of my kids in Vicenza. Wishing all that were assigned with me at the 69th all the best. Pluto Rocks!!!! Anyone for lunch at the 10 mil place? |

| Comments: | I just happened
upon your 69th Ord. website and it brought back so many memories for me.
My father, Mess Sgt. Gerald W. Green served at the infamous "Pluto"
from 74 to 77. He was in charge of that great messhall. There were many
times my family ate there with my father and we had so many good times
at the family nites there. I remember one time he had belly dancers come
to entertain the troops and their families. He was awarded "Bess
Mess" while he served there. I can tell you that the 69th Ordinance
was my dad's best tour of duty ever. I just wanted to share this with
you and hope that someone who reads this, remembers my crazy wonderful
dad! He loved being a Plutonian!!!! I wish he was here to see this website and share with all of you his crazy Pluto stories because there were many. |

Although I was at Pluto for just a short time before going to the 559th Group, I enjoyed it and remember many of the people on your site. I knew Bill Green as a SFC when we were at the Nuclear Weapons School in Albuquerque, NM. Cecil Hutson was a good fishing buddy at Rock Island arsenal when we were there. Most importantly I want you to know that my Daughter, Cathy Plumlee designed the Pluto Patch and I took it to a company in Vicenza to have them made. |

| Comments: | It was great looking through all of the names in the guest book. I remember many, but for some reason, not all of the ones who served with the 69th when I did. I am back now on an ODT rotation in Italy and the site is now a transient barracks. Up on the hill, it is all opened up and everything is overgrown. What a shame. All of those man-hours and money wasted. I still have alot of good memories though, and who can forget things like Albino's grilland promotions involving having "the mixture" dumped all over you? Who can forget people like Maui, Dan-o, and Donnie Thompson? |

You could never be the first one to fall asleep without waking up altered in some way. I'll never forget Dan Peppers, Perry Miller, Clementson, Washington, Boice, Givens, Lombardi, Perozee, Krumpos, Goss, Parks, Hutchenson, Rizzi and Ray K. Lear. | Comments: | Very interesting site. I couldn't stop reading your guestbook. Thank you for providing this vehicle. My time at Pluto was instrumental in re-directing the course of my life. We all knew how important it was to give service to our country. Pluto as a reference did good for many of us. [I think I still have the pluto patch around somewhere.] |

| Comments: | One of several OCS dropouts, I served in the operations section with Cpt. Price, Cpt. Zimmermann, Mr. Knight, Sgt. Warden, Sp/5 Lancer, and Sp/5 Frazier. Hung out with Phil Marino and Rick Simmons. The troops trained for the 69th, along with the AF and Navy Nuke forces, are the unsung heros of the cold war. Some of us were lucky to have known them. |

| Comments: | I've been playing Army for almost 30 years. The 6 my family spent in Vicenza and those at the 69th are the best of the 30. I've run into many alum over the years, always good to see friends. I work for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, formerly known as the Defense Nuclear Agency. I'm the guy who gets the WSRs now. Am amazing how things have changed. I have some great pictures that need to be posted; Neil Rappenecker, Ray Plagens, and a really good one of Angelo DeCecco, Ray, Rob Althide, and I at the 10mil place. Ciao |

Found out today from a retired WO that I work whom I with that he and I were stationed in the 69th at the same time. I am very pleased that he directed me to this web site. I enjoyed looking at fellow soldiers that I served with in the 69th. I have almost 33 years in the Army and the 69th was a great experience and foundation for my career. I will look for pictures and send them soon. Thanks for this web site; great job. CW5 Clinton E. Parker, Sr. |

| Comments: | Great site, John! My tour in Italy included a year at Mount Calvarina, a bit over a year with the 69th, and a final year at the 559th Group headquarters. My time at the 69th included work as the Security Officer, and later as the Maintenance Officer. The PCS tour in Italy is the one that spouse Kris and I value the most. Our best regards to all the great soldiers and families we served with there! (By the way, I retired from the Guard late in 2002, after serving my last four years at the headquarters of the 34th (Red Bull) Infantry Division. History buffs will know that the 34th participated in the liberation of Italy during WWII, including parts of NE Italy near Vicenza.) |

| Comments: | Really great web site, in the guestbook I saw dozens of names from the past. I couldn't remember all of them, if I were to list them. As the last Warrant Officer assigned to the 69th, participating in the closure of site Pluto and the two sites in Greece; negotiating the radiological monitoring and clean up effort with both the Italian and then the Greeks, and then, turning in all the MTOE equipment and tool sets. I appreciate CPT Sharp redirecting me to this site. Most especially, I appreciate all of you, that served in the 69th Ord Co, it was an extremely important and demanding job, and we were more than successful. Good Luck to all of you, I hope that in this Holiday Season you have the opportunity to reflect on our accomplishments at site Pluto and for all those current soldiers serving far away from home. v/r Chief Carnell |

| Comments: | Duty positions while assigned at Longare included QC/QA NCOIC, NASP NCOIC & Operations Sergeant. While assigned to the 69th from Jun 1988 - Jan 1991, I had the pleasure of serving with some of the finest Ordnance, Signal, MP, AG, QM, & FA Corps personnel ever assembled in one unit. Little did I realize that it would be my last company level position as a 55G. I was reassigned to G3, Surety Division, USASETAF as NCOIC from Jan 91 - Aug 92. I remained there working at Caserma Ederle & assisted in closing all of our groups, companies & detachments in Turkey, Greece & Italy (watching in agony as personnel & equipment was reshuffled throughout the Army; losing contact with almost all my special weapons co-workers & friends). I visited Site Pluto with an EOD pal shortly after its closing & walked into an empty parking lot & over to a silent admin/barracks building & thought I heard a whispered war story being told about the soldiers' who'd lived & worked there thru the years. | Comments: | During my tour of duty at Pluto I had the great pleasure of working with many fine Officers WO’S, NCO’S and soldiers. Just to name a few MAJ Ron Bunner, CPT Ron Beck, LT John Myers and LT (BG) Paul Wieck II. WO’S Glen Jones, Ed Griffin, Roy Combs Chet Zombek, Cecil Hutson, Harry Caldwell, John Weber, John Verbosh and Bob Christianson. NCO’S included but certainly not all SFC’S George Artley, Jim Sawyer, Lee Swain, Bill Curtis and Jose Rosa-Garcia. And way to many outstanding enlisted soldiers. To try and mention all is impossible but, a few who always seemed to keep my butt out trouble included Melvin Davis, Alan Winemiller, Patty Flynn, Dave Baron and of course SFC’S Swain and Rosa-Garcia. I apologize to all who I have failed to mention. There were many good times in Italy but some of the best were at the Rod & Gun Club functions, such as the Thursday night potluck dinners, the Fourth of July celebrations and the wonderful R&G Lake. The lake was not much more than a back yard fishp |

| Comments: | I have no knowledge of the 69th Ord. Co. I was in 12th Ord. Bn. from Jan 1955 to Sep 1957. We went from Holloman AFB, NM to Neckersulm, GE, to Pirmasens, GE, to Zweibrucken, GE, to Massweiler, GE. I understand later, they became the 529th Ord. Co. and the 564th MP Co. I have found about 260 guys from the old 12th Ord Bn |

| Comments: | I served with the SETAF Infantry Brigade. Which was a provisional Airborne Brigade established in 1993-1994. It is currently the redesignated 173d Airborne that jumped into Iraq. Anyway due to the space limitations on Caserma Ederle we practically moved into Pluto after the nukes left and the site was closed. | Comments: | Thank you for this site and bringing back some incredible memories! Ahh, the frivolity of youth! I was not assigned to the 69th, but rather to the 28th/11th USAFAD which was colocated with the 69th at Pluto when I arrived in 1984. (We eventually moved to main post.) At first, it sucked because I lived in downtown Vicenza, but soon it became one of the best assignments of my career. I joined a band "Vengeance", with Kevin King, Ed Workman and the post SGM's son. We had a blast rehearsing in the Site Pluto mess hall. I was in Commo in the 28th with Rick Roidt, SGT Taylor, Bobby Adkins (Man if you read this, write me!), SGT Wade and so many others. I will never forget Club Beethoven, the Italians and their warmth, the great food and all the time spent in Udine. I retire from the USAR in June, but a large piece of me will always remain in Longare. |

| Comments: | Spent three years at Site Pluto. Loved the place. We closed all the Herc Sites in 86-87 if I remember correctly. The field problems with the Italian Army were the best. Camping on the Piave river, everything stopped at 18:00 everyday, wine with dinner topped of with a different Brandy everynight (In the NCO\Officers mess tent). Bob Hines, Perry Friewald, Gerry Cross, Ralph Mattioli, Phil Simard, Carlos Fernandez, Larry Taylor, Dwayne Green, Francisco Iriarte, Tim Everhard were all the ones I remember from there. | Comments: | My tour of duty at the 69th Ordance Co. was my most memorable. I was the company's armorer and also worked in the supply office. I remember one of our cooks and our baker were both from Maryland! Great guys! and great pies and cakes! Got a yearbook of great pics from that time that the company had made. Also have a bunch of pics of the area I can share with y'all! But most of all, I and few of the guys were able to get to the 1970 Formula 1 Gran Prix in Monaco. I immediately feel in love with that little principality, so much that one day after I retire I hope to live in or near it. Have been back to Monaco since and my personalize tags on my motorcycle also reads MONACO! One day, also hope to get back and see the site before it disappears altogether! Any of you guys I hung out with on our weekend trips to Venice...please give me a jingle! |

Most of these I have seen in the past few years. I have been back to Pluto in 2000 just to see what it looked like and it brought back great memories. Hope to hear from some of you guys. |

| Comments: | I entered Site Pluto under the reign of CW3 Robert Hines and departed by closing Pluto and the Greece sites. We had a close-nit crew that made all the hard work fun. Never since have I had a job where you were even allowed to be such a perfectionist as it was expected of you then. I remember the Taylor triplets, SGT's Lee, Riniker, Stepp, Holder, Munoz, Nagel, Sterns, Sweetwood, and many more. And who can forget Italians who made the tour all that much better. |

He was always smiling, his Yamaha Motorcycle his toy, and hanging out with friends enjoying life his passion. SP4 Bradshaw polished his boots and Helmet, and readied his Dress Uniform for display at his wake. His parents came to Italy to see where thier son spent his final days and to thank his friends for sharing in his life. The world lost a wonderful person that day and for those of us who remember him he lives through us in our fond memories of him and the contagious joy he carried with him. |

| Comments: | Ciao, I'm so sorry about bad english; during oct.85 until may 86 I was in Ederle, as a driver, I was an Airman 1°cl. of the Italian Air Force. I knew a boy a Corporal from Baltimore, MD; he was in Pluto, his name was Richard B. Maeby. We became good friends, every free week end he was in my town, with my family and my friends. I saw him last time for Xmas 86, he was guest in my home with my parents, January 87 he went out the Army and came back to Baltimore. Then he disappeared... So are a lot of years that I often think about a friend that is like e ghost. I'm worry, someone can help me? Alessandro. |

| Comments: | Great site. It's been YEARS since I was the NCOIC of the CCC at Site Pluto. In my 7+ years in the U.S. Army, Site Pluto really stood out. At first, it pretty much sucked since the main post was SOOO far away and I didn't have a car (I eventually got a Fiat Ritmo. .who didn't?). From what I recall, we had the BEST Mess facility in Northern Italy (those 82nd Airborne dudes at Caserma Ederle were SO envious of us!). The cooks were great and the food was fabulous. We were a small group (69th Ord. Co.) and way back in the mid 1980's, the Commo platoon finally got a new building in the Motor Pool (WAAAYYY up the hill). The "old" facility (located just south of the mess hall) became a rehearsal studio for a Site Pluto R&B band. . .they were great. I was stationed there for three years, and eventually a soldier who was married and had off-site housing had the need for a roommate (his wife had been sent back to the States, but I'll not go into that here) so I spent the last year in Cas |

| Comments: | It certainly brings back memories of Pluto. It's nice to see names like Carroll Wells, Tom Merritt, and Gary Stepp. I was the Publications clerk in the Operations section with Bob Hanson as my NCOIC. I hope CW4 Wells and CSM Stepp remember me. I also worked with Gary Johnson and Becky Halstead. I served 6 years in the Army and now I'm very active in The American Legion. |

Siegelsbach (1974-1977) and USAREUR IG (1977-1979) You could always count on the 69th Ordnance Company as being the best or damn close to it, you guys/gals really had it together. Great memories! | Comments: | It's great to read so many familiar names. I was stationed at Vicenza the first time from 1957-1960 and enjoyed all the folks at Site Pluto. Went back to Vicenza 1982-1989 and was at Pluto the first 2 years only, but went to Group and had firm ties with the folks at Pluto. I have great, lasting memories of all. I have inoperable lung cancer and am not doing well. But my best memories are of the good times. |
